Needle Felting On My Shoulder

Call for wool sweaters!.... It's time for me to dig up my closet only to find out that most of my wool sweaters are in black and grey color, and I am bored out of them already - after a few wears of the winter times - still, they are in good condition, and not yet deserved to be in a donation bin.

Buying new clothes for the new season is always a delightful, but....I don't know....in these pass two or three years, I feel like going to the stores getting some new clothes isn't the real fun for me any more.....maybe it's part of me getting old.

So, instead of buying a new sweater this year, I'd rather have some fun jazzing up what I already have in the closet, and get excited with the end results better.

One easy way I've found to make an old plain and boring sweater into a new interesting piece is to add some fun embellishment using needle felting technique.

I saw these felting project on Martha Stewart 's show, long time ago. The show featured the works of a woman who made tiny, beautiful sweaters for children out of the adult old sweaters, and embellished them with needle felting in all kind of cute animals and flowers felting.

The fact that I never get to know this kind of crafting technique before, it got my attention, and made me want to try my hands on it.

As soon as I found the needle felting kit at a craft store, I grabbed them right away, even though didn't really know what I was going to do with them just then.

Though I'm sure those lovely sweaters made by the lady on the show are really cute to die for, I don't think it would make me look darn cute wearing them with all kind of animals and flowers all over the sweater, so the kit has got to be sitting silently in a craft box for quite sometimes waiting for the right ideas to come.

And here we are - the right idea pop up in my mind in the middle of me making a new pair of wool, winter pants - just like that.

During the process of making the pants, my mind wandered off thinking of what kind of top to be wearing with, and the gray wool sweater was one of them.....only if....it's got to be the interesting piece. So, let's make one!

I decided to go with a little white birdie on one shoulder of my old J. Crew wool sweater using wool sheet cut-out instead of wool roving - making it more easier to cut out the perfect shape - then got on the sketching, cut out the birdie template and later the wool sheet following the template, placed it on the right side of the sweater, inserted the brush base inside the sweater, right where the birdie is, and started working the needles.

Just keep pushing the needle tube up and down supporting by a brush base, making sure the needles get on all over the felt cut-out, the tiny barbs on the needles will automatically do the magic - sticking the cut-out felt onto the sweater in the wink.....and my plain sweater isn't that so plain anymore.

Carrot Pants with Traditional Thai Pattern Fabric

Here comes, my new carrot pants. I've finally got it done - right before Holiday orders strike my studio, and that 'd be no times for me to play.

I got this gorgeous Thai sarong cotton fabric from Noom's auntie a year ago, and really love it. The pattern is beautiful, the color combination is rich. I just knew that it could be made into one beautiful pants, but didn't know then what kind of pants it was going to be.

Until I saw a pants in Vivienne Westwood 's Red label, 2011 collection. It was a loose knee length pants in stripe with the color combinations similar to my fabric, and that made the picture of my pants even clearer.

But, I know for sure, I won't look as cute in those knee length pants as it is on those skinny models, so I decided to go with carrot pants.

I got on the floor making my own patterns, and fitting tested with old cotton bed linen, which is no longer used for bedding before jumping on the real fabric, and I love how the whole thing's turned out - the print, the colors and the pants style, all come together so well.

The important thing that satisfies me most is that it fits my body nicely, I can move freely - don't feel any pull there, or the tuck here....love it so much that I'm now working on the second pair with a really lovely floral print in rayon fabric.

Getting Cozy in Knitted Circle Scarf

After have been procrastinating of making it for a year....yes! a year....I've put my loop scarf to finish, just right in time for the brisk cold air hit my skin.

I love the way of wearing this loop scarf, it is easy and giving a very comfortable warmth with no fuzzy tails dangling around my neck.

I always wanted to have one, but most of loop scarfs out there are too long for me. I don't like wearing the scarf as a necklace, but rather something that really covers up my neck. So I made this one 23" long, and it wraps my neck perfectly.

Love it already, and working now on another colors.

Handmade Slippers for Fall

Yep! I'm feeling it. Strong wind brings chill to my skin, and our floor is getting too cold to walking around the house barefoot like we always love to do during the Summer.

For this Fall, I've promised myself that I am going to make a pair of slippers....Yep!!I'm going to do it.

I'm very fond of Japanese craft books and magazines, even though I can not read a word of it, I'll find the way to make it happened anyway, and because of that, I have the whole shelf filled with Japanese's.

There are many cute handmade slippers that got me so inspired. They made them look so homey and comfy - most Japanese craft books know how to lure you with their perfect photos, and I always fall for that.

I never really have a proper pair of slippers, don't know why. My "slippers" is basically a pair of flip-flop wearing around the house with flip-flop socks. So this is a good thing for me to start this Fall.

I started with an easy feet measurement, drew flat patterns, and went on cutting the fabrics. This is an easy slippers made with interfaced heavy weight cotton, thick industrial felt and soft fleece. Because of there is no stiff material in this slippers, they can be accomplished by home-sewing machine.

Because of its light wight, it's like wearing socks that can be slipped in and out anytime I want - so comfy. I made two more for hubby, and are going to make more - just in case when we have guests come over - they can comfortably take off their shoes and slip in my slippers *~*

Mangosteen HP soap for the recuse

We are totally running out of our handmade soap. My last bar in a shower is now as thin as a paper, which, I think, can give me another 3-4 days of rubbing.

Obviously, I need an emergency new batch which is usable within a week, and I can't do that with CP (cold process) soap, which normally takes, at least, 4 weeks to cure and be usable.

So, HP soap is the only solution I have now (buying the store soaps has become prohibit in our house since I started making soaps.)

Because of this is an emergency batch and also my first time making HP soaps, I thought I better made it a small batch - only 20oz. - perfect for four of the 5oz soap molds.

And yep!...first time's already charmmmm for me. My HP soap didn't want to come out from its molds - maybe because of there is too much soft oils I used for this batch - I hit, kicked, threw them on the floor, put in the freezer....nope!!...nothing came out.

The only way-out I had was to scoop it out with a spoon, which means I will not get pretty bars of soap as I expected, for sure.

I decided to reshape them, and pretend they are cool stone-like soaps, which I think will look cool in my shower anyway. I also got two extra muffin soaps for hand watching in the kitchen when I ran out of molds.

Next project waiting is lip balms and winter lotion. Spending time in Thailand for four months left me so many things to get done here in NYC.

Back to the same old table

I have entered a new chapter of my life, in the past four months. It gives me more perspective and reminds me the meaning of lives we have each other.

I had to pack my bag- twice, and flew back to Thailand within two months apart for dad funeral and later grandma.

My shop had to be closed for me to be able to deal with the loss, and spend time with family back home.

I have to admit though, it's a big bump in my life, and now I have to try to get back to what I have left - with a pile of new linen and new ideas.

No mater what life takes us, every day, we just have to keep on going.

Blue & White, From Porcelain to My Dress

I felt in love with this blue & white floral pattern on cotton voile at first sight. It reminds me of fine, beautiful, old china.

I kept it locked in a cabinet for a while waiting for summer to come, so I can bring it alive.

I waned to have a simple, but versatile summer dress - very easy and super comfortable to wear, just put on and go for a lazy day, and be able to jazz it up in a flash for some special events.

I decided to make my own patterns making sure they suit my proportion with the V neck both in the front and the back, the skirt part is lined with off-white light lining.

When I started making the dress, I already saw, in my mind, what colors of all accessories I think would make the dress completed, leather brown belts or red, yellow belts - thick and skinny. All kind of solid colors of bangles, even my brand new gold watch will do the magic too.

I am so pleased with the results.

Handmade Shoes

Every time I went back to Thailand, I always make sure to spare some times for visiting Chatuchak market, the huge weekend market in Bangkok.

This market is the mega for all kinds shopping. It's also one of the huge handmade market in Thailand, and a place to go and check for the trend going on in Thailand. This time I only had a half day to walk around the hugemongous market, so I just dashed to find things I knew I got to have it. And one thing is these pair of handmade leather shoe.

I remember having the first pair was 22 years ago. I believe it was Indian people who brings these kind of shoe to Thailand, and, at that time, they can only be found in Indian stores along with all kinds of things from East Asia country.

I love that they can go with almost every kind of outfits I have. The look of the shoe is timeless, to me. How about if I put the Bottega Veneta label on them to match their signature bags....

They need the sole slip resistant pads though, these plain lather is quite slippery. Other than that they are comfy enough to walk in and make me live my life in them through out Summer long. Fun!

Bangle Up

I love wearing things on my wrist - all kind of thing- just think they make my outfits completed. I never leave home without a watch - that's the one thing- bangles, cuffs and bracelets are the other things.

I am a big fan of big bangles but I don't like the price of them here in the US, so I packed my desire of big bangles in my suitcases with me whenever I have a chance to fly home to Thailand.

And I got what I wanted. These bangles cost about $1 each in Thailand, when it could be up to $15-$20 here in the US, and I couldn't be more happier.

These animal print make my simple white shirts completed with a little kick.

Summer Flowers

To me, summer is all about having fun with all the colors and patterns around me. It's also the time that I be able to play and make things for myself - like bags and clothes - before going back to a Holiday frenzy preparing for my shop.

It's the time when all of my beautiful fabrics I've been collecting come to alive.

Like this crazy flower printed cotton voile I've been keeping it in a cabinet for years. I had no idea what I was going to make out of this fabric when I bought it - the color combination and the print on the fabric that made me pay for it.

This summer it's come alive, finally!...I did it with the V neck, my favorite neck line, which I think complementing my broad shoulder and open up my chest, and now most of my summer blouses I made have V neck line.

The fabric is so light and breezy, so I wore it with shorts to the beach even though it was a rainy beach that day. I love it.

My Heart Still When The Dawn Break

My little sister at the corner dad loved to sit

On March 30th, I dropped everything, packed my bag, and flew 22 hr. back home to Nakorn-Si-Tammarat province, Thailand, when I got the worst news of my life from my sister that my beloved dad had passed away. It was the first time to experience how it feels when people say their whole world has crumbled down. We were all there to see dad off to the beautiful place where one day we would all meet him again.

I spent most of the times being with mom. My brothers and sister had to go back to their works in Bangkok after the funeral. It was the most peaceful time of my life taking in every minutes, every emotions, accepting and learning to be with it, and don't resist it.

One day, mom woke up form a day nap saying that dad had visited her in a dream telling her, with a smile glowing on his face, that he is now living in a very happy and restful place. We all know he is.

Now when I think of him my heart still, tears still coming down with good memories sometimes. The sadness is still deep in my heart. It was the sadness that I enjoy being with. It's not a bad sadness, but a beautiful and peaceful sadness that I allow myself to get to know and understand it, and will be able to let go someday.

Dad, you are always there everyday the dawn break, my heart is full of the love you gave me, and it will always be with me till we meet again. Love you so much.

Waterproof Bikini Bags

Bikini Me...It's time
Enough with the cold. Don't you just miss coconut trees, powder-white sand and a mighty blue ocean already?.....Well, I do.

My new product for Spring and Summer is done. The Waterproof Bikini Bags - no more wet swimsuit in an ugly plastic bag for me...and for you :)

I always wanted to have a bikini bag for my wet swimsuit, but I couldn't find one that is really "Me"

Of course I can make one, and I know how it's going to end up look like, but my burden was to find a nice waterproof fabrics that are not oil-cloth fabrics, and it's got to be soft.

First I found this beeeeautiful vintage looking waterproof print fabric at one of my local fabric store. I felt in love with it right away. I bought and slept with it for a while, didn't want to do anything about it until it found its own match.

And, Oh la la, I finally found them, the soft waterproof fabrics. I went out grabbing four different colors of them, and started playing with the shape and design - the most frustrated and fun part of the making, when my hands were too slow than my thought.

Breaking one needle, I finally got the shape of the bag that I like and moved on to the print - one stand out coconut tree at one side and the wording Bikini Me! on another side.

I love the simple look that hides the crazy-pretty at the inside....just like this. They are now made available at my shop. Please check them out. It's time to Bikini You!

Have My Heart Locked. Have You had yours?

After my first try of making my first key pouch I was hooked. I found my self enjoy doing it, and wanted to make more in different designs and shapes.

There is something about making these tiny pouches, that gives me more of meditated- like kind of feeling from the fact that they are smalls - to me, making something small with hands requires patient and attention.

Most of my fabric projects are done by sewing machine, but these cute key pouches just have to get done my hands - stitch by stitch....now that' s the meditation for me.

I love making them already, so, I've made them available at my shop as well for those who want to have your heart locked or unlocked....you get to choose.

Recycling Fabric Remnants to A New Cushion

I am one of those people who feels guilty throwing away all things fabric, which I happen to have a lot. So, I finally found the way to recycle fabric remnants I'd been collecting for a while.

I save most of the fabric remnants after each cut, the big pieces go to one bag for later use, the smaller pieces go to another bag waiting to be cut into tiny pieces.

I also have a chair that needs a cushion since it's very old and has been serving my butt with its not so strong legs. Lately, I found some of my knitted pants were torn by this old dude more and more.....

Enough!...you need a cushion...Chairrr!

I thought of these tiny remnants I've been cutting and saving in a big shopping bag, had no idea then what to do with them, only knew I didn't want to throw them away.

Now, it's a perfect time. I'll use them for a new cushion stuffing.

I measured a seat, made fabric cut and hit the sewing machine. I first thought of making it with beautiful fun print cotton then changed my mind to the plain off-white medium weight cotton instead cause I plan to make a cover for it later, so it will be washable.

Ready to stuff....it's a good idea not to stuff cushion on a rug.

It's a 17" x 15" x 2" boxed cushion. I decided to use up all shopping bag full of fabric remnants in order to cover the later collapse.

And, I've got a new cushion along with being able to get rid off, at least, one bag of the fabric remnants....sweet!

Labeling Lip Balms

When I first finished a new batch of Avocado lip balm, I thought I'd going to make labels for them right away, but then, as you see, they were still sitting in a jar naked since.

My plan was I's going to make fifteen different design labels for this batch. Clearly, I was delirious thinking that I have time to play around.

So I ended up spending five minutes on PS whipping out only this design labels, and left it in my computer, until my husband printed it out recently because he was going to give some to his friends.

And that, all my lip balms are dressed up, eventually.

Kimono Sleeves Pullover

My new project is done, and I love it already. After a long debating whether to transform this beautiful wool fabric into a cape with hoodie or a pullover, I finally got an answer.

Judging by how versatile it's going to be and my own personal habit, the pullover's won.

If it was a cape, I could only wear it when I was outside, with the pullover, I could wear it all.

So I made up the kimono sleeves patterns and chose 1 1/2" built-up bateau neckline to go with the kimono sleeves, just thought that they go together beautifully, only to realized later that I should have made it, at least, 2 " so that the built-up could really be prominent.

It's fully lined with grey silk lining....I first thought I have enough black lining in the cabinet, but it turned out it was all used, so I had to grab this grey lining instead.

I couldn't help adding a tiny peek of orange as front pockets, since orange is my color. First, I thought that it's going to be plain with noting accent, but I know, I cannot live with that, so there they are....a peek of orange.

Now that, I can have a good sleep.

I love this kimono sleeve already. It's so easy to make, nothing too complicated. The fabric has a perfect weight, and falls nicely.

I also love that it complements my body, suits my easy dress codes, and if I wanted to dress up a bit, I could just belt it with a nice leather belt, I'll be good to go in a flash.

Easy Transfer for Perfect Embroidery

There are many times that I have to make neat embroideries for my customer's orders, especially when it involves with some specific fonts that I don't think my free hand drawing will make a perfect end result.

So, I use a flour pouch-transfer technique to transfer the pattern to the fabric, and it always works neatly for me.

First, make a small flour pouch, any flour you have, and secure it with elastic.
Second, print out the templates or artworks you want then use a needle to prick through the out-lines

Next, just slightly tab the flour pouch on the pricked template, just for flour to go through the tiny holes

Now your template is perfectly transfered to the fabric, ready to be embroidered. When it's finished you can just brush away the excess flour with a very damp cloth, and you'll have a perfect embroidery for your neat project.

Isn't it easy....Happy embroidering....crafty people.

Flannel for Me, Please

I've finally got my new pair of pants for this stormy Winter. When the first blast of winter hit the air, I thought I would make a new pair of pants right away only to realized later that there was no time to play anymore when the Holiday season knocked on my door.

So this soft flannel fabric had been sitting quietly in the fabric cabinet for three months.

As soon as I had room, I hit the floor making pattern, cutting fabric and jumped on a sewing machine, and I got a new pair of comfy pants the next day.

Quite impressed how it turned out - not to tight, not too loose, perfect hem line for my high. I love them already.

The flannel is soo comfortable and warm. At first got the fabric, I thought that I was going to make a PJ out of it, but then, as I was making pattern, laying down the fabric, I changed my mind thinking it could be made into a cool pair of pants, instead of just a PJ.

And I think I've made the right decision - at least, they would make me look more "snappy" when I had to make a dash to the post office for urgent deliveries during the day, instead of looking beyond "cool" in a PJ all day.

All's Grown Up

My gang of gold has all grown up. It's been almost a year already since we first brought them home, in March 2010, and they were barely an inch long then. Now, they are about 4 inches long (tail's not included)

I still remember when I was so tempted out of the fully grown gold fishes in a tank at aquarium store. They were all beautiful, I could spend whole day just to see them swim.

But then I decided to go with the babies, knowing that it's much more pleasure to see them growing right before my eyes.

It such a relaxing activity to feed the fish and watch them swim or sometime play with my finger reflection. Who says that gold fish has short memory, I don't believe them.

A new member in Feel Good Dolls family

After two productive months of holidays season, I finally have time to play and be a Crafty Head again before getting start on new items for the shop.

I felt itchy for new projects, really wanted to try and make something new and fun for myself, so I started with cleaning up all the "Accessory" of my purse.

This is how my purse always looks like. There are all keys, store cards, a hand grenade shopping bag and an eight year old terrier key ring charm, which is falling apart, threaded together in one ring, attached to the purse - feeling like a building-keeper the whole time.

The fact that I'm always paranoid of losing the keys, so I have to find something that is big enough to hold my key ring and make me feel safe every times I run my hand through my big bag trying to find the key ring at the bottom of the bag.

And yes, I feel safe this way because I don't like holding too many things in one hands, if I can put them together, I rather do it, and when they are put together in a bunch, they don't get lost easily....I think?

But, if I happened to lose them in a bunch.....it'd be the end of my world....knock on wood!

I've been reading my friend, Pim 's blog, featuring her mom's cute handmade key pouches, she made as gifts for friends, and was inspired, thinking it's such a good idea to make one for my key ring.

I started to see the good things of this key pouch. It hides all ugly rusty keys, prevents the keys to scratch everything they come to contact with- like camera, phone when they are all together in one bag.

I couldn't wait for the next day, so I could take better pictures in natural light while I making it, and started making it that night without knowing how to do so, but I 'd find my way anyway.

And this is how I ended up with - The Feel Good key pouch from the Feel Good family.

Aren't they cute!!...well, I think they are. Thanks for Pim's blog and her mom, Ar-Jan Suanboon, for the inspiration.

I love it already - even my hubby thinks it's cute and practical for me too, he said that I should have made it long time ago - he hates it when I put DSLR camera in my bag with the keys in there.

This is my first key pouch, and I can see there would be the second, and the third, and the forth, and the......for sure.

This one's made with the remnant of one of my summer rompers. It'd be match when I wear that rompers....too cute...maybe not!

I personally love these scarfs because of its light weight that doesn't make me feel too heavy on the neck yet still warm enough to get through the winter blast...I've been using them since. The yarn itself is very soft and light. It has wool mixed with acrylic for an easy care.

The Bittersweet, Sweet for Fall

We went out to farmer market this weekend. I love farmer market during this time of year. The whole market is painted with colors of fall.

Wandering around, I can feel the vibes of the most beautiful time's coming close and I'm excited already.

I found a table full of this tiny orange berries called Bittersweet, I knew I couldn't go home without grabbing some of them with me.

And now, I'm spreading the colors of Fall all over my house. Lovely.

When the hot wind has gone, it's time to embrace the cool air, and that's when my skin starts to screaming.

It's time for me to go back to my beauty kitchen after living lotion-free for all Summer long. First thing is lip balms, we completely ran out of it - this time I made about fifteen tubes with sweet grape flavor. It smells delicious.

I actually love the look of lip balm tins or jars, it looks cute as a packaging, but I don't like the way of using it with the fingers, so I stick with tubes for now.

This recipe is my favorite. The consistency is perfect for me - not too thick, nor too greasy on my lips, and the whole thing is very easy to make.

This recipe makes about 14-15 tubes of .15 oz. lip balm tube. I ordered the tubes form here , and the oils here

.8 oz. Babassu oil or Coconut oil
.8 oz. Avocado oil
.8 oz. Bee Wax
.4 oz. Cocoa butter
2 tablets of Vit E
20 drops flavor oil

I use the standard size filling tray which fit .15 oz. tube for easy filling.

Start making....Ohhh...you're going to love it, it's very easy.

1. melt every thing together in microwave except Vit E and flavor oil which will be added in after all the oil and butter is melted....and that's it!
2. use plastic pipettes to fill the melting liquid into the tubes.

It's better to over fill the tube since the balm tend to sink creating a tiny dimple in the middle of the tube when it hardens. You can always scrape out the excess balm with the scraper.

Bring the excess balm to melting again and use the liquid to fill the dimple if it happens.

Scrape all the excess balm to get a perfectly smooth surface and let them cool down a bit then slowly slip the tubes out of the tray.

Nicely done! What I'm going to do next is to design the label...truly a fun part, but I have no idea when it's going to happen....

Rompers, My Heat Remedy Pieces

This Summer I mostly live my life in rompers. I just plain love them....they are one comfortable summer piece to throw on and run with it - sooo easy, breezy and c...ute!....and totally fun to wear - dress up, dress down- I can do it all with them.

So. I ended up making three of them this Summer.

It is another easy Summer sewing project, only if you want to have side pockets - like I did. To me, adding side-pockets takes a bit more nerve, which I now know I don't like making them, but I do love to have them....sighhhh

Today I saw some leaves already fell, last night I felt some cool air. Yep!...Fall is coming. Still, I'm not sure I'm done with Summer yet.

More Bermuda In The Closet

Since I was hooked with making pants, I can't stop doing it now. Knowing that Summer is coming close to an end, in the past week, I stomped on my sewing machine making myself two rompers and one Bermuda shorts for my hubby.

I just love the excitement of seeing the finished project, and that we can actually wear them.

The best part of making my own clothes is that I can make it with my own design - doing it what ever I want it to look like, doesn't have to be right by the book, but it has to feel right by myself - just like when I do some other design.

Now I've come across that making my own clothes is like making or learning in another area of art that I never get to know before, still the fundamental of making art seems to be similar....proportion aka composition.

Oh...My Swirl

When one of Thaibubbles's member decided to host new challenge under a theme "Swirl", I just thought...well....it's a good time to try on making some fancy looking soaps now.

And this just how far fancy I can go. It's obvious that I can't make my name on fancy soaps at all.

Polka-dot Camera Case

I lost my camera case a few months ago, and had to go back using its original old and ugly leather case in a meantime before be able to make a new one.

Last week I got a piece of lovely heavy weight satin, which was perfect for making a cushion cover. I made it to match orange satin throw pillows. I just love these color combination - black, white and orange is beautiful together.

So, I decided to make a new camera case with remnants of these fabrics. I know it'll look cool once it's finished. Since they are satin, I thought it'd be more beautiful to quilt them.

I use white industrial felt as a cushion, and quilt two pieces of satin together before cutting a pattern.

I love to make my own compact camera case so that I can have a tiny compartment for my additional batteries - everything is in one pack making my life easier, and ready to go.

I also made a matching camera strap and threw away the old one which was so beat up - each pieces of strap' d fallen apart.

This camera is only two years old, but it looks like it' s been using for five years already because it is one of the tool that goes with me everywhere. I don't care about cellphone - forget it often, but, if I happened to leave home without camera, I always go back and get it with me.

Bermuda Shorts for My Hubby

When I go to fabric stores most of the times I spend time in there like I spend time in the Met. - slowly look at all the fabrics, feel them and and enjoy all beautiful colors and prints, and that when new ideas pop up.

A few weeks a go when I went to my usual store just to get more linen for my shop, didn't think of getting any new pieces at all, this beautiful print mustard linen happened to catch my eyes. Right away, I knew I had to have it and it's going to make a beautiful Bermuda shorts for my hubby.

After seeing me walking around the house with new shorts more and more , he now has enough confident in me to make pants for him, and asked for some summer shorts...He's trapped, eventually.

He's expected a new summer shorts, but, never, ever expected this type of colors and pattern to be one of his outfits. It's wayyyy out of his comfort zone, which is all of those solid color summer cargo shorts.

I knew he wanted to get up and run when I showed him the fabric, which will soon becomes his summer shorts......I told him I'd let him run if he didn't like it - just let me make it first.

This week he was out side wearing this mustard print linen Bermuda shorts twice already. He came back and said that he likes it........without me putting any sharp object on his throat, of course.

Label Them...Don't Go Plain

I wanted to send my newest herbal Mangosteen soaps to our best friends, Roger & Wanyi, living in Canada as a gift. They both love handmade soaps and all things natural.

First, I wanted to just send them out with plain wraps because I didn't have time to jazz them up. Then my husband came to rescue using his magic wand to whip out these sticker labels for me.

It is much better than plain wraps. Who would argue.

One Shorts A Day

I don't know how many shorts people would need to wear through out their summer time..... but I do know that it is such a good life to be able to have a new shorts every day. So, I'm making it.

After having been living in low-waist pants for most of the time, this Summer I opt for high-waist shorts....yep!...my waist gets higher and the hem lines get longer....it's time to raise the level of comforts a bit more higher into life.

As much as I love them, this is another piece of Sarong fabric I have. Only that this one isn't an Indonesian batik pattern.

It was given to me by Noom's aunt. It is a brand new fabric - never be worn as a Sarong before, so the color is still bright and beautiful.

I made a pattern with one 1 1/2 inches pleat at the front on each side of the legs, so they give enough room for my chubby legs to feel more comfortable.

Mangosteen Delight

Another batch of Mangosteen soap I made for the Thaibubbles challenge . The theme was Natural Colorant, which was such a perfect theme for me since I am now so into Magosteen powder and want to make more of Mangosteen soaps, so I used them to color this batch.

I left the top part uncolored and scented them with fresh laundry FO from Snowdrift Farm. It smells really like a laundry room.

Oops! Just When I Thought I'd Ruined My Satin

In Summer, I tend to live my life in satin. All of my cushion and pillow covers will be changed to satin covers. I just love the silkiness touching my skin when the weather outside is hot and sticky. Satin gives me a cool and comfortable feeling to snug with.

Last week I decides to make new orange satin covers for this Summer, and I thought I'd ruined it.

People who work with satin know too well that satin frays like crazy when you cut it, to make it easy to work with, I treated the cut edges with fray-stopper liquid, and that's when the problem started.

After I finished applying the liquid on the fabric, I lifted it up, the wind blew, the still-wet edges swung all over touching the other part of fabric.....I thought that's it!!....My beautiful satin was ruined.

But then, the window opened. I thought since this liquid was going to stain my fabric, I would make it stains even more, beautifully of course.

According to the company, you can just use alcohol to rub off the unwanted spot happened by this liquid, but I see the advantage of it....I'd make flower pattern for the plain satin with this liquid....and...Voila!....I'd got a handmade pattern satin.

It is good to do freehand drawing, so that it blends with the free-from stains, and it will not be noticed.

I sprayed them with water and pressed with warm iron to make it stay stick and hit the sewing machine. Here is my new silky orange satin covers....orange makes my feel good, totally.

Finally, A Summer Skirt

I am so confused with the weather day by day. I don't event know anymore what the season I am in right now. Yesterday was and easy Spring, today is a steamy Summer. In someday, I had Spring and Summer and Winter all together within the same day.....totally need some herbal tea.

First, I thought I'd wait until Summer came to start making Summer clothes. It just feels so good to start the changing season with new clothes, but then, the next day it was Summer!!... Oh..Nooo....my summer skirts are not yet ready.

My mom's old beautiful Indonesian batik sarong fabric I brought back from Thailand.

I got panic and went into digging the fabric bag thinking I HAVE to make them now then the weather man said, the next day, it would stay cold throughout a week.....well....better to do other things that needs to get done first then....

it's just killing me when having new clothes hanging there and wouldn't be able to wear them right away.

Now, it's a time - the weather man says so - and again, I believe him, so I made a pattern of this easy, breezy Summer skirt for the "starter" and I love it :)

The last time I went back to Thailand I brought back many pieces of Thai sarong fabrics including my mom's old Indonesian batik sarong fabric. She wanted to give me new pieces but I didn't want it. I asked her for those that she already wore because they are soft and I can smell her when I wear them.

From one piece of mom's sarong can be made into two skirts with totally two different patterns because of the unique pattern design of this kind of fabric.

I have another side with beautiful bold flowers left that I can't decide if it's going to be another skirt or a new pair of shorts.

Mangosteen Soaps

Finally!...I have my Mangosteen soaps after had been sitting aside watching Thai soapers who has an easy access using this wonderful Mangosteen powder in there soaps for quite sometimes.

I've known Mangosteen for all my life. They are one of my favorite fruit. We even have Mangosteen orchard at my grandma house, still I never know that they have good health benefit for our body.

So, the last time we went back to Thailand, I made sure that one of the list I'd bring back to New York is Mangosteen powder. My mother in law give me a big box of them, enough for me to make a thousand of soaps out of these powder.

This weekend, I just got wooden letter-presses from flea market. They make it perfect for making the mark on the soaps.

Wearing the Garden

We've Summer breeze coming through our windows, totally feel like we are in the mid of June already. There are tons of beautiful flowers at farmer market in many different shapes and colors now.

It just simply puts me in a very good mood.

I came home and went into a closet and found the whole garden in there - in this breezy, airy Summer shirt I brought back from Thailand. As soon as I saw these bold, bright and gaudy flower pattern, I went crazy.

Pairing it up with some simple short or a slouchy pair of jeans, I know my Summer's is ready to flow.

I have a lump in my throat while writing tonight.

It's killing me to know what's happening in my home country right now, and it just buries me a live to know some evil-bastards are trying to do terrible things to the country and my beloved King Bhumibol, the king of Thailand, just to feed their own greed.

I don't care whether or not others would understand the love that Thai have for the King, I don't event care to explain....one thing I know that I will find my way to hunt them down if someone try to hurt my father and destroy my home.

King Bhumibol Adulyadei is a father figure of Thailand, if you know what a great father will do for his children, you'd know what I'm talking about.....

Fly Me to The Beach

Shouldn't we suppose to feel Spring? Instead we all feel Summer here in New York. It's 92F in Central park today. I am so confused.

Anyway this hot air put me in the mood of beaching already, though we just came back from our vacation in Thailand.

We spent almost half of our times there on the island and beaches. When I was living in BKK I usually drag myself out of the hectic city to the beaches every three months.

It's been almost four years since the last time I had been on the beaches in Thailand and I was just craving.

When we were on the island we mostly stayed at our best friend's house and then went to stay at the Haad Kuad Resort by the beach owned by my friend's friend and we had a blast.

Favorite Nook

I am now so obsessed with my fish tank, so that this tiny nook by the window has become my favorite nook. I spend the whole morning enjoy my coffee, feeding my gold fishes, watching them swim and never get tired.

They are getting bigger everyday.

Even better that we can now open the windows and enjoy the breeze from the outside. Love Love Love Spring and Summer.

Finally, today is Spring...No!...Summer? in NYC. We hit 82F. and this is what's happening on my window sill that has gotten me very excited - Mrs. Primrose has survived and bloomed for me for a second year after all of those snow.

Spring Swing Short

I am soooo ready to swing when Real Spring hits the air. This weekend I made myself another Spring and Summer short. After keeping this lovely light cotton fabric for a year, finally I've decided I'm going to use it.

When I saw this cute fabric I fell in love with it right away. I love everything about it - the colors, pattern design and the light and soft of cotton itself.

Because I love it so much that makes me so conscious of making sure that I'm going to make the right decision of using this fabric. The fabric is too beautiful to be ruined with the bad design, and I think I've made a good decision this time.

I made up my own patterns using my trouser patterns and went for it. I really love how it turned out. I have a fabric left enough to make an easy Summer blouse. I'm going to do it, but don't expect me wearing them together, though.

Now that, it makes me want to pack my bag, hop on the plane and jump off on the Island again.

A Gang of Gold.....Fish

Here comes my gang of gold. After a few days of setting up the tank, now it's completed. We picked them up at an aquarium store in Chinatown we usually buy pet fishes from.

Again, once I was there I was torn, I wanted to get as many of them as I can. All I can do is to Wish.

Theoretically my 10 gallon tank suits for one gold fish. One!!...'c mon everybody needs friends and the fish is no exception, they need friends too....Yeah....so I bought three of them. Forgive me fish-police. I'll take a good care of them for sure.

The gold one is Lionhead goldfish, the silver is Oranda goldfish, and the black is Black Moor goldfish.

I bought the baby goldfishes - about an inch long. I didn't want to buy the grown one. I enjoy raising and seeing them get bigger with my own eyes better.

Then when I thought I'd carefully chosen the good looking and healthy goldfish......it turned out I brought home an uneven eyes Black Moor - I totally need my eyes checked, too.

But then my husband said...well...actually it is good for it that we picked it up otherwise it might be discarded because of its eye, and I agree - besides its eye, it's totally healthy and very active, so I'm happy to have it anyway. It's kind of funny looking fish which is still enjoyable.

Pocket Tote

Spring and Summer is coming my way, and that's when the fun begins. I know I'm going to lie down on the grass in the park with a book in my hands more often.

So, I made this perfect size pocket tote for my favorite pocket book with my little tomatoes painting on it to carry with me when all the food goes into a picnic bag. So, let's spring.

An Old Tank Ready for New Friends

Yeah....I did it again. I'm going to have gold fish again after the terrible New York Black Out in 2003 that killed all my gold fishes. We were out of electricity for two and a half days in steamy summer time and my fish tank couldn't take that either.

New York always surprise me in a weird way. Who would have thought that this thing would happen in New York.

Now I miss all the beautiful swimmers, the sound of small water fall created by water running through a filter and dancing air bubbles. So, I decided I'm going to do it again.

Last night, I dug up my old 10Gallon fish tank, cleaned it, set it up, and it will be ready for our new members after a few days, which now I'm letting the water running and be filtered before adding the fishes.

This time I decided to go with simple and clean decor, no more gravels for the gold fish. Gold fish is a big messy digger. They create a lot of waste, so having gravels for them is such a pain, especially when I want my water look clean and clear all the time.

With this kind of simple decor, it'll be more easier for me to keep the tank clean with less effort.

This is going to be great. The whole fish tank is really a mind meditation for me. I can't wait to pick up my gold fishes soon. No fishing here!

Chinese Opera on Bars

I went to grocery shopping in Chinatown yesterday and these are among the items I brought home, Chinese soaps.

I never use these soaps before, and using them wasn't the main purpose of me buying them, either (I have a basket full of soaps I made that I am responsible to finish them all.)

I bought them because of their packages - something of this packaging design that caught my eyes.

The colors and graphic they used reminds me of the beautiful Chinese opera and Old Chinese movies, I grew up watching them my eyes out everyday, with rich and vibrant colors and delicate pattern that goes together beautifully.

To me, even though I don't see that it says Chinese, I can indicate them from miles away that they are Chinese soaps. Their appearance obviously show the oh-so classic - Chinese art. Love them.

Spring's Already On Me

I can't wait for Spring to bloom, so I just dived into my fabric bag, and came up with this dainty flower pattern on cotton fabric laying at the bottom of the bag.

The flower pattern and the color combination is sweet, and I think it's going to be sweeter to make my new short out of it.

To prevent me from wearing it in the wrong side, I put my name label at the back to mark the back and the front.

Now, I'm ready to put away my winter clothes, and pop up more flower in my closet.

Tame your plastic bags

I know many of you have already been carrying your tote bags to grocery shopping, and I am one of you.

Still, there are times when I stop by grocery without my shopping bag in my hands, so I have to take store plastic bags home, and they are always pain to keep them in place at home.

They are like monsters, to me, who just can't behave themselves. They puff up and fly everywhere if I ignore them.

So I decide to share how I tame these monsters in my cabinet. It is not a new idea, many of you have already known how to do it, and these are for those who has not known how - like some of my friends and my husband.

I just fold them into small triangle shape, and....voila!!....they will never puff up an d fly around the kitchen any more. I just easily keep them in a container in my cabinet and use them as a small garbage bag sometimes.

Keep folding the triangle in the same manner to the end then tuck the tail inside the pocket.

Now that the war between me and plastic bags is over.

Orange Snail On My Finger

I was playing around with crocheting as always along with knitting my new flip-flop socks and finishing the orders for my customers at the same time when I ended up with this funny, crochet ring, which I think - looks like a little orangey snail with three tiny black eyes dancing on my finger.

Effortlessly, I have my fun weekend ring ready to be up against all the colors, which will be coming in all beautiful shapes and forms waiting to be blooming in just around the corner.

In some beautiful days, I rather take off my "little - blue - box" ring and run off with some things colorful on my finger - doesn't matter what it is made of- it is the colors that matters the most.

And this kind of ring will never come in with a little blue box and a tiny bow ribbon on it....well... I don't think those "little - blue -box" people know how to crochet a ring, don't they?

Wrist Cushion, My Funny Friends's New Task

This year my Feel Good Dolls has grown a bit longer. The only thing I've been doing is to keep feeding them dried organic lavender buds, and they keep getting longer and longer *O*

But then....I don't know.....there might be some nuclear waste hidden some where around East Village that causes my funny friends disproportion - their arms and legs' re getting shorter, but, thanks god, their bigggg smiles still the same....

So I have a new idea for them to have a new task, judging from their long bellies - I allow them to just lie down next to my keyboard making my wrists feel comfortable when I work on typing and keep smiling at me, and soothing me with lavender scent as usual - that's it - an easy task.

Tradditional Thai Patterns on Fabrics.

One of my mission of taking a trip back to Thailand, besides visiting our families, is to grab Thai fabric as many as I can do, and bring back to my studio in NYC. I know I can make great stuffs out of this beautiful fabric.

In Thailand, we call this kind of fabric Pa-ly, which is another kind of Pa-Tunk or sarong fabric in English. It is a piece of soft and tight woven cotton fabric that is sewed, joined together into a big bag with no bottom for women to wear.

My lovely 99 year-old grandma, Pann, in her usual Pa-Ly and a cotton summer blouse in a hot day.

The patterns are tradition Thai motif most commonly seen in Thai art and crafts. In the past, this type of fabrics were more likely worn as a sarong by an elders - like my granny, but not any more.

In my recent trip to Thailand, I'd seen a lot of this Pa-ly made into a modern design clothing like pants, skirts or use in decoration in some type, and I love it!....

Finally, this fabric get more respect rather than be categorized into just sarongs for elders. It is just a piece of very nice and soft cotton fabric that can be made into just about anything.

And that's why I made sure I have these beautiful fabric with precious pattern design in my studio.

Sweet Almond Lotion Bar.

My sweet almond lotion bar with a yummy scent of coconut and vanilla.

My skin has been screaming dry since day one I got back from Thailand to an icy street of New York City. I feel like having something to easily rub it on my skin, especially on rough and dry spots like a back of my hands, elbows, feet with no oozy-mess feeling of lotion or cream.

So, lotion bar is my choice. It is very easy to make, just an equal part of oil, bee wax and butters, melt together in microwave, (in my bar, I later added 2 tablets of vitamin E and a tiny dash of FO) stir well, pour into a mold, let it cool. When it hardens, it will pop off the mold.

I made one 1.50 oz. bar for myself just that I don't want to stock up on this kind of thing. Spring is just around the corner, this perfect palm-size bar will last me until then.

During our last visit at Jatujak market, the biggest weekend market in Thailand, of our trip in Thailand, I saw a lot of coconut shell products there, from home furniture, lamps, handbags, buttons, tableware, kitchenware etc. all that can be made out of these versatile coconut shell, they were all there.

I remember the first time I saw the coconut shells made into something unseen-of was almost fifteen years ago. It was coconut shells made into woman evening bags and some forms of jewelry by my friend, Moo, who's then living on Koh Tao, a diving paradise island in the Gulf of Thailand.

He opened a small shop and sold his crafts to visitors there before moving to UK five years later. All of the stuffs in his shop were made out of coconut shells, which I think it is a brilliant idea to make a living on the island full of coconut trees.

But then he designed to move to UK with his British girlfriend and got married there. His craft shop was closed eventually. My memories of seeing coconut shells in another forms of products was faded too.

I believe the coconut shell products have been around for quite sometime, only that I wasn't there to see them rise.

So in this trip, I was so excited to see these coconut shells made into different kinds of shapes and forms and, of course, functions all over Jatujak market. I think these hard shells are cool in their own ways. I wish I had the ability to take them all home if the airline allowed me to pack more than 50 lb a bag.

Well then, all I could grab was these cute coconut shell soap trays. I bought enough for my friends as a gift to go along with my handmade soaps.

Small Living, Big Pleasure on Koh Pa-ngan

Kob & Kung's temporary house while their new house was building. Kob built it with his own hands.

We went visiting our best friends, Kob and Kung and Morgan, their only son, on Koh Pa-ngan, a beautiful island in the Gulf of Thailand .

Kung is our best friend since we were in the university. She is a real city girl who used to work in advertising as a graphic designer, loves fashion and is a beach goer, just like me.

Kob is a handsome local guy who left his hometown to spend five years in England. They met each other on Koh Tao, a small island close to Koh Pa-gnan where Kung was taking a vacation - with me there. Kob just came back from England with a big charming in his smile.

The couple decided to live together, eventually. Kung left her fast and colorful life behind and headed to the South, hopped the ferry to the local guy's arms living in a coconut grove. The rest is history......What a novel!!

They spent a few years on Koh Tao running their small restaurant at Tanote Bay before deciding to move back and settle down on Koh Pa-ngan, Kob's hometown, here they run their small bakery and open the lovely house in coconut grove for beach-party goers to rent out.

I really have a respect toward their decisions to live their lives small and subtle when they can make it big had they wanted to. Even though Kung is now far way from her graphic design career, the sense of designer is still there and that she keeps it alive on her cakes and her house.

As it is a purpose of the house, it became our temporary house while we were there. The house also has its own kitchen, but we ended up running to her kitchen everyday. Oh yes, she is a heck of a cook, as we all know.

Kob made all of this by himself. They love spend the night out here watching all small and big fish they feed at night before going to bed. The water is very clear when it is rainy reason this small creek turns into a one fast moving river in a blast.

Making my own virgin coconut oil

Making coconut milk with my two hands at my mom's under construction kitchen.

Since I've been making my own soaps, I've got a lot of knowledge about all the good benefit of natural oils. One of them is coconut oil, especially the cold process virgin coconut oil. The more I read about it, the more I am captivated about all the secret benefits hidden in this oil that is good for human body and that makes me want to know more about how it is made, and why it is so pricey.

I was lucky enough to find one Thai website writing about how virgin coconut oil is made locally. It doesn't have to be or to have anything fancy, you can get your own virgin coconut oil that is very clear just like water with true coconut scent.

This is like finding a gold mine for me. I really wanted to try and to see with my very own eyes how the clear oil would come out from the coconut milk, but my problem was I live in Manhattan where fresh coconut milk is impossible to find, so I had to wait and wait and wait to take a trip back home in Thailand where coconut trees are already standing tall at my parent's yard.

The day I got home, I already saw coconuts under the tree, mum said they just fell yesterday and have more to fall. It is not an easy job to peel coconut if you are not familiar with it. Even though I grew up running around coconut tree, I still can't do it. I need my beloved Vietnam veteran to do the job for me......and that he always come to rescues.

The other day dad wanted to peel two coconut for me, but I told him I needed just one, leave another one for mum making her yummy curry because I didn't know what I was going to get, so let's not waste it.

If I wanted to skip the peeling part I can do just that - bike to the market and buy the already grated coconut meat and even have them do the cold press to get the fresh coconut milk for you, it's that so convenience.

Got Milk?

The rabbit, a coconut grater

I hand grated the meat of one small coconut with mom's 50 year old coconut grater called the rabbit or Gra-tie in Thai to grate all the coconut meat then hand squeezed it to get the white milk.

This is the old way of making coconut milk for every kitchen. I say the old way because now a day you can easily buy the already grated coconut meat fresh from the market.

After all the white meat was grated, I poured lukewarm water over grated coconut meat and kept squeezing until I got enough white milk then used a strainer to filter out the grated coconut meat.

Next step, I poured the coconut milk into a small plastic bag and tied it with elastic to secure and let it sit in a fridge for 24 hrs. The next day you'll see the coconut milk has separated into two layers which is the layer of the pure coconut milk and the layer of water that was added to make milk at the first time. It means that the coconut milk is working on process of separating the oil and the cream of coconut milk.

To this point, poke the bag where the layer of water is with some sharp knife or somethings pointy to make hole and let out the layer of water run through completely then tie the open hole with another elastic. Now what you have in the plastic bag is a pure coconut milk-almost like a cream cheese.

Put it back in the fridge for 36 hrs. more then bring it out and let it sit in the room temperature ( keep in my that I made this in Thailand where room temperature is about 87F) and you'll see that the white cream start to separate again into, maybe, two layers or three layers in some cases that's because there is still some water in it - just untie the elastic and get rid of a layer of water than pour the remain in to a bowl for an easier collecting.

Now if you take a look closely you'll see a clear layer of oil separated from the white cream completely and that is the virgin coconut oil - as clear as water, right there. Next thing you do is to carefully scoop the water-clear-like oil out of the white cream.

And that now I know why it is so pricey. One coconut makes one small dipping bowl of virgin coconut oil, so I made more, enough to bring back to NY with me. I am now applying it on my face everyday, and I just read about the Oil Pulling theory, which is VERY INTERESTING to me since I'm debating whether or not to have my bad tooth pulled out - now it's just giving me a nagging pain. I'll try the Oil Pulling theory to see if it can save my tooth.

Poo Fah resort, Koa Yai

Last year Noom's dad bough a new land up the hill at Kao Yai where a new family's vacation home is building. The land is in the Poo Fah resort area around with sunflower field. We all went there to see the land and stay a night there at the resort.

The resort is divided into two part which is the residential area and the resort area which open for everybody who want to stay on vacation there.

We decided to spend the night in a group of three bungalows sitting next to each other with continue corridor, looking down the hill to the bed of green. The room is lovely, decorated with bamboo walls and ceilings and romantic bedding with hanging mosquito net.

I've been noticed that now a day many resorts in Thailand have provided the out door shower room which is hard to find in the past.

White Water Rafting at Kao Yai

We went to Kao Yai, Noom 's dad is going to build a new vacation house there. The land is up the hill with a beautiful view over the sunflower field. The house will be built this Summer. We can see it's gonna be so beautiful there.

Not far from the resort we stayed was a white water rafting place our two little nephews wanted to show us. They say it is really awesome, so we went and go for rafting. We all have a blast.

The water is so refreshing, the atmosphere is so lovely. Our two monkeys have the most fun time.

Black Charcoal Soap

No BOOO, No Shocking costume needed for this year Halloween...It is already scary enough of how today economies treat us. So, I'm going to just stay home sipping hot tea and make more lovely soaps.

I made 40 oz. of these soap in a slabbed mold, and cookie-cutter cut them then stamped my name on each one of them. I like how they look. These fine charcoal powder make good black soaps, which' s what I like, black soaps look cool in my bathroom, but they also give black suds.

I don't know what other people would think about rubbing their skin with black suds, and I don't want to freak them out, so the whole batch is mine.

Finally!!...I made it!

I can crochet like a storm, but when it comes to knitting, I always fall into a dumb mode. Crocheting is more easier for me - just a single needle I can make my own crochet patterns and crochet what ever I want to.

Dealing with more than one needle is just wracking my brain out, not to mention reading the pattern!!....This is my first time reading the knitting pattern...IN ENGLISH....along with knitting with three needles. My Goodness!... They should really put pattern reading in ESL class too, I'm SERIOUS!

I went to yarn store, and saw this Patons, Socks in the City book, out of the blue, I wanted to knit socks - don't even know how to read patterns. It was these flip-flop socks that made me want to try.

I ended up knitting in front of computer most of the times because I needed how-to tutorials from Youtube - thanks for those who makes them. I can finally get a grip on knitting.

No No!!....don't ask....how many times I had to do and undo it in order to get it going. After spinning my head around with all abbr. and with the helps from Youtube tutorials I can finally figure it out what it means and how to do it.

I later realized that, for those who already knows how to knit and read the pattern, this pattern is quite easy to follow.

When it is the first, there is always a second. I am getting more yarns in different colors. Bring it on babe!!

Five months have been passed since these two cuties were first introduced. We both agree that in somehow they just look like our nephews, T.R and T.T , so we name them after our naughty boys. T.R is the Chihuahua and the Beagle is T.T.

My my!....Here they are today. This T.R., the Chihuahua, reflects real T.R., the naughty boy, in real life - cute and pain, and T.T is always a sunshine. We miss them so much.

Fall for the Fingerless Gloves

Am I too slow to find out that these fingerless gloves are so comfy and practical when other people have been wearing them around for age? I think I am.

Well, I think it is not too late for me to start making them and wearing them as long as Fall is still falling.

After tying my brows with some skeptical for a while about how these fingerless gloves can keep my hands warm, I'm giving it a try this Fall. It turned out that they are really making my hands feel warm and comfy, and my fingers can still do their jobs.

Because they didn't sell to me before, so for me to be friend with them, they need to feel right. I played around crocheting, making the pattern, trying to find the right fit and most comfortable way for all my fingers can be moving freely in them.

I've found that besides a hold for the thumb, another hold for pinkie is more comfortable than to round all four fingers up together because the pinkie is small and naughty, she always wants to be free and tend to escape from others most of the times.

I am now so addicted to them.

Old Towel, New Tote

It is hard for me to throw everything fabric away, if it didn't get beat-up so badly or if it did, it'd become kitchen rags to the last otherwise they'll be recycled into something usable again.

Like this beautiful salmon Guy Laroche towel. It was accidentally torn by a bathroom hook.

The quality of the fabric is still in good shape with all the color and texture. I can see that it could be made into a beautiful beach tote, and yes, it is. I glammed it up a little with the black lace...perfect!... I really like the way it looks.

Well, I might be the only one who have Guy Laroche beach tote since Guy Laroche doesn't make one, but I do.

When we went to Cape May, a small seaside town at the end of New Jersey shore it was all beautiful Victorian homes and mansions which are now converted into hotels and Bed and Breakfasts that thrilled us, not the beach nor the water. We spent only two hours on the beach, fifteen minutes in the water of our four days staying there at the Chalfonte Hotel . The rest of our lovely times had gone with biking around town and taking tons of photos of all the houses and, of course, the light house.

This is the only one painting sketch I did on the last day of our trip when we were ready to leave the hotel. It was a lovely small house across our hotel.

Summer Finale

Summer was officially ended. Fall is falling down through my window. Here is my Summer finale dress I made this Summer. The flower pattern is too cute to resist.

Besides making my Feel Good Dolls with it, I know that this cute pattern can make a very lovely Summer dress, to see how it's going to look like when it's finished, I did a quick sketch, and hit the machine, sewing.

It is a very easy sewing project with elastics at the top and waist making it easy to wear for walking around town. The end of the day, I can simply dress it up a little with a black or red fabric belt tied into a bow at the waist and off for the party to end the Summer fun.

Purses for Sister

These are the purses from my experiment inspired by my aunt purse. They came out pretty good. I decided to give these dainty purses to my younger sister as a gift.

I know she will get to use them as evening bags, she always has parties to go to. Now that I am retried from being a party goer, I assist my sister instead.

My sister and I are very close. When we were living together, before I moved to New York, we shared the closet. I worn hers, she worn mine, mostly mine because I was already working at that time when she still was in school, so the big sister always get to buy.

She is now a working woman with a promising job in real estate business that keeps her busy all the time, and a lot of parties to go to.

Also, now that I love being a maker instead of an user, I wish we were still living together, so we could play dressing-up as we always do. Only this time I get to make, she gets to use, it's going to be a lot more fun of it.

Still, even though we are thousand miles away, I always buy stuffs for her when I see somethings that I know are so her, and she loves it. She has a perfect body that always fits in any type of clothes easily, and that is fun for me to buy or make things for her.

One Night Sitting

We got to play with our neighbor's cat, Babena, the Siamese mixed, for one night when her apartment was fumigated and her owner had to spend the night outside too. She is a really pretty cat with blue eyes and white socks.

I was always wanted to have a cat or dog, but we decided not to because of our livings are not a perfect condition to care them, especially when we travel, we travel for long period and to leave them with someone else that long would kill me.

So we were so happy to sit and play with Babena for , at least, one night. The next day my husband woke up with one red eye. Oh well, we will never have a cat I can see.

The Rebirth of Old J.crew

My husband's old J.crew boxers is now reborn.

I was really having fun making this boxers. It is my first pants I've ever made. Because I never make any kind of pants before, so I have to find the way to put them together, and that's what I LOvvvvee the most. It is fun, just like putting pieces of jigsaw together.

It was just a right time for me to try on making pants. This old J.crew boxers was saying good bye to Noom by gradually tearing itself up, still it didn't stop him from walking around the house in it with the side of the pants flying off.

So I made him to take it off this morning, and started to cut it all up. Now that feels so good *O*

I cut all the pieces and used them as a guide to make new patterns on the papers, since I don't know how to make pants patterns as well.

I decided to save the elastic band since it was still in good shape, and I didn't want to run out to buy it because, as I say, this is my first pants, first working with elastic, so lets not rick of buying it and not be able to use it as always.

I dug out one of my cotton fabric I bought three years ago for making pillow cases. It was a light weight and very soft 100% cotton.

I used just small strips for the pillow cases, and left a lot of fabric, so I tried to think of what else I can do with it. Today is the answer, and now my husband has a boxer that matches his pillows...HOw Cute!

Still, the fabric is left out quite enough. I started to think of making myself an easy Tank-top because the fabric is so soft and comfortable to sleep in actually, and that I'll have mine matching my pillow too.

Dough in A Pot, Crochet Coin Purse

Here is my Dough Pot. They are the new items for my shop, the coin pouch, I call them the Dough Pot because, obviously, they look like tiny pots.

I always go nuts when I see cute little coin pouch. I have to have it! There is something about kiss clasps that makes me want to have it. I am kind of enjoy the feeling of twisting the clasps open with the fingers and then snap them close with a little snap sound. I can do that all day....Help!

This crochet coin pouch reminds me of my first "Purse" when I was four. It was a tiny, red, kiss clasp crochet pouch my aunt gave me on my first day going to school with two coins inside.

I didn't know what to expect at the school, but that little purse made me feel like a grown-up who has the important thing to do, only later to cry my eyes out knowing that I had to spend the whole day with a bunch of the other crying machines.

The next day I refused to go to school. School is not fun at all. My aunt said that she was going to take back the "Purse" if I didn't go to school because there is no need to carry the purse at home, and that's even worst than spending the whole day with the mucus and tear. So, I went back to school with my purse in my hand.

As times go by, they become my object of collecting. I have quite a bit of them, and quite often, they become lovely gifts for my friends and family members.

Toile de Jouy

This traditional classic French style textile is still charming to me, as much as the stories of Empress Dowager Cixi of China or Marie Antoinette of France that always have me lost in the sophistication and elegance of the eighteen century every time I read them.

To me, a classic piece of the old world always adds an interesting character to a modern-day living. My pillows need new covers, so I dig up a piece of this black and white cotton toile I had for a while, and turned into the covers.

I wanted to add some sense of the eighteen century dramatic, so I lined them with the red lining and a peak of purple from invisible zippers.

Ta-note Bay is a tiny, quiet bay on Kho Tao, one of the diving paradise, in the Gulf of Thailand.

It is my sanctuary when I want to be away from the hectic life in the city. I spend a lot of times hanging-out with friends who lives there, and doing nothing but having fun with swimming, diving, boating....and a lot of laughing.

Can't wait to go back again.

New Summer Dress In Time

How many summer days have left!....I hope it's not too late for me to swing my new summer dress I just finished it yesterday. I said it to myself that I would have a new summer dress as soon as the summer air hit my skin, but, as usual, a lot of things need to get done first.

No more complain because I'm wearing it today, eventually. And I am loving it. It's so airy and comfy.

It took me three days to work on it along with running around for other things else, two days of measurement, making new sloper, new pattern, and one day of sewing. My old sloper needs to be correct, so I decided to do it all over including the measurement. I have been putting it off for quite a while.

Now I've got everything right, the fitting is perfect, ready to make myself more dresses that fit my body beautifully. I have to pay a hundred-up if I bought this type of dress at Anthropologie.

I used the light weight 100% linen for the top part, nothing is more comfortable wearing in the summer time than linen. I am so addicted to it. The skirt part is made out of Indonesian batik print cotton we call sarong fabric, given by my aunt the last time we went back to Thailand.

A friend of her gave them to her as a gift from Indonesia, but she isn't a sarong person, so she saved them for me because she knows how crazy I am about this fabric. It is a tight woven 100% cotton. The more you wear, the softer and more comfortable it will be.

I also covered all buttons with the skirt fabric. They came out lovely. Now I see that it made a beautiful dress, I want to make more out of this fabric. The sad thing is, this is my last piece of sarong fabric I have.

This dress fits me perfectly. I now know why my aunt has all of her clothes custom make.

Street Fair

I thought I would just taking a quick walk to a post-office and make a quick look at Farmer market to see if I could grab some plants and go home and work on my summer dress laying on the table, my husband designed to joined me at Farmer market thinking of just a little walk around.

We were about to cross the Broadway and walked home when we saw a street fair stared on 18 st., we changed direction, and from there, we ended up got home at 11 pm.

They set it up on both lanes of the roads walled by beautiful tall buildings along Broadway, created such a contrast atmosphere between the city vibe and the market vibe. This is how I love New York. The city is full of contrast to itself.

We just strolled around, didn't have anything in particular to buy, still I went home with three beautiful small ceramic dipping bowls.

Started out as a quick walk at Farmer market, our day ended at Go, the Sushi place across the street from our apartment.

Summer Lavender, Mom's Soaps

Another batch of exfoliating lavender bars. This batch is for my mom. She doesn't know yet that she will be flooded with bubbles showering with these soaps. There is an army of bubble-making oils in it.

This batch is quite heavy in dried lavender buds because mom is also a big fan of exfoliating.

Just like me, mom loves oh-so bubble kind of soap, she says it gives a very clean feeling, and that because of the weather in Thailand is so so hot and humid and sticky all day long.

Believe me you will sweat as soon as you finish showering and step out of the bathroom, if the bathroom isn't in the air-conditioned room.

At our house, we have an outside bathing area surrounded by trees perfect for a steamy hot day. Mom and I mostly spend the day wearing sarong up to the chest bathing and gardening and bathing all day.

The bathrooms inside the house are just for a quick bath when we don't have time to linger on bathing. Our land is covered with white sands, surrounded by some coconut trees, taking a bath outside is feeling like spending the day on the beach, the only thing missing is the ocean. I can't wait to go back and take an outside bathing under the trees again. It's totally refreshing.

If you want to know what kind of herbs is good for your body, you need to talk to my mother in law. She is a big fan of taking care of health and body in organic way.

Last week my husband was on the phone with her, and so we know that we need to eat and use a lot more of turmeric. She is now filling her own tiny capsules with turmeric powder and take them every day. Do you know that turmeric is a cancer fighting herb as well.
Turmeric Powder

Besides for cooking, turmeric is also known for carrying a lot of good benefits to our skin. It is used as an antibacterial agent. Most South Asian women learn to use turmeric on their skin from their mothers. Since we already eat them, now we are going to shower with them.

In summer, when the weather get too hot, my husband have some break-out on his back, and I've been promising him that I'm going to make turmeric soaps for that. Now he got it. I made a 40 oz. batch of turmeric soap, scented with Frankincense fragrant oil.

I put a lot of turmeric powder into it, as you can see those tiny red spots in the soaps, added some fun with tiny almond soap balls which also smells really yum.

Aroma Therapy In The Depressing Rain

Boy oh boy!! Who stole my Sun...It's been gloomy and wet and chill for a few days already. It's cold and dark and soooo depressing in the middle of June. I totally need something warm and smell comforting to fill my room, something aroma therapy. Give me a fresh baked smell.

When the weather depress me, a smell of fresh baking sooth me good. It's comforting and homey. Since we ran out of bread, this gloomy day is a perfect day to bake a new loaf of bread, and let the yummy smell fill the room. Literally, I just need a fresh baking smell.

Pleaseeee...enough rain already.
